Gracen Daniel Verhagen, 4, De Pere, passed away peacefully in the arms of his parents on January 8, 2019, following a lifelong battle with Cerebral Palsy. He was born in Green Bay on April 14, 2014 to Michael and Shanda Verhagen. The youngest of eight children, Gracen was born prematurely, and he was a fighter from his 2 pound, 12 ounce beginning.
Gracen found joy in everything around him, and his laughter and smiles were contagious. He loved animals and their sounds, and the silliest of noises his family would make. He loved baseball and cherished the friends he made in his season with the Miracle League last summer. Gracen attended Syble Hopp School, where he made many friends. He always looked forward to the bus coming down the street.
In 2018, with his parents and all seven siblings, Gracen went to Disney World with help from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Those memories will last a lifetime.
Gracen is survived by his parents, Michael and Shanda, siblings Ethan, Camden, Avery, Aidden, Madisson, Riley and Mason, grandparents Bruce and Julie Verhagen, Donna Galske, and James (Pam) Galske. He is further survived by his uncles, Ben Verhagen, Corey Shady and Jeremy Galske, as well as other members of his extended family.
Family and friends may visit at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. A prayer service will conclude the evening at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Gracen's honor.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to everyone who provided Gracen care over the years and everyone who has expressed support and love in any way.
