Gregory Alan Welker, 79, of De Pere, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, on March 2, 2026.
Greg was born on December 7, 1946, to Walter and Helen (Moore) in Richmond Heights, MO.
After graduating from St. John Vianney High School in St. Louis, MO, he earned a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota.
Greg proudly served his country as a corpsman in the US Navy.
On May 24, 1986, Greg was united in marriage to Teresa (King) in Watertown, WI. They were looking forward to celebrating their 40th anniversary.
Greg is lovingly survived by his wife Teresa and son Bryan (Juliana) of Miami Beach.
He is also survived by his siblings, Nancy Pautler (Paul), Randy (Paula), Jeff (Terry), Amy Milner (Jim) and sister-in-law Linda, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Perry.
Greg was a fan of surf rock, specifically the Beach Boys and the Ventures, and would regularly be seen wearing one of his vast collection of Hawaiian shirts. He loved all things railroad related, not only designing track layouts for railyards and ethanol plants for a living, but also in collecting and setting up model trains in the basement. Another hobby of his was photography, after getting his first Pentax camera while in Vietnam during his time in the Navy and carrying his affinity over the years taking photos of his rail projects and his travels.
Greg was a jack of all trades, learning many skills in becoming an Eagle Scout, while also supporting Bryan along his Eagle Scout journey.
Greg had a love for sports, growing up a staunch St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and in later years became a Green Bay Packers shareholder. He coached Bryan's youth soccer team, the McFarland Stingers, and was an avid supporter of Bryan's college alma mater, UW-Whitewater Warhawks football team and their many National Championship seasons.
A celebration of Greg’s life will take place Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Ryan Funeral Home 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere from 12:00PM – 4:00PM. Full military honors will be conducted at 1:00PM. The family requests that all attending dress casually.
The family would like to thank Dr. Alan Singer SSM Health Dean Medical Group for his expert and compassionate cardiac care over the years.
Greg will be remembered for his deep love and devotion to his family and friends, his faithful service to his country, and his arduous attention to detail as a railroad civil engineer.
Share your condolences with the family by sending them a box of Seroogy’s Chocolates.
