Gwenevere Edith Skenandore, 86, Oneida, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family in the early hours of Thursday, November 4, 2021. She is now home with God and His Son, Jesus. The daughter of Isaiah and Genevieve (Moore) Cornelius was born on April 24, 1935.
Gwenevere grew up on a small farm in Oneida, and she enjoyed riding horseback with her brother Vernon Cornelius. She loved playing slots with her sisters and son Jeffery, traveling when she could, good food, older country music, and soap operas. Her family was her top priority and she was a lifelong member of the Oneida United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her seven children, Joyce (Rick) Hoes, Wanda Skenandore, James (Kelly) Skenandore Jr., Douglas (Sharon) Skenandore, Doreen Zayas, Jeffery (Nora) Skenandore, Genevieve (Jose) Zayas; her 16 grandchildren, Alexander, Joseph, Andrea, Julia, Kyle, Isaiah, Crystal, Teresa, Jeff Jr., Bonnie, Jennifer, Carmen, Gabriel, Daniel, Brenda, Jose Jr, as well as 23 great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by her sister Madelyn Genskow, four sisters-in-law, Ruth Wagner, Marjorie Funmaker, Eva Doxtator, Beverly Skenandore, one brother-in-law, Ronnie Skenandore; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Gwenevere is preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, four sisters, Florence, Geraldine, Winifred, Carol, three brothers, Irwin, Isaiah Jr., and Vernon, two grandchildren, Matthew and Lawrence Jr, one great-granddaughter Zoe, and one son in law, Ruben Zayas.
She is further preceded in death by her brothers-in-laws, Emil Elm, Russel Skenandore, Dick Robelia, Bill Cornelius, Lawrence Skenandore, Ellsworth Skenandore, Norman Skenandore, Harold Ninham, Martin Doxtator, Harold Kaiser, and Lloyd Wagner, and sisters-in-law, Arlyss Marker, Thelma Kaiser, Martha King, Alice Ninham, and Emily Skenandore.
Family and friends may visit at Oneida United Methodist Church, N6037 County Road E, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 7, 2021. Please be aware the Oneida Nation is requiring masks.
Visitation will continue at church at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Rick Haberland officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
