Obituary

Hans Clifford (Cliff) Beck, 86, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2013 at his home in Elmhurst, Illinois. Born to Olga and Neils Beck on November 7, 1926 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Cliff lived most recently in Elmhurst to be closer to his daughter and her family. Over the years, Cliff also lived in De Pere, Allouez, Green Bay as well as Northbrook and Glenview, IL and Flemington, New Jersey. He had worked for his father at Beck's Bakery during his high school years and started driving at the age of 14 to be a chauffeur to his father who had heart issues and could no longer drive. Cliff was a graduate of East High School, Class of 1944. He served his Country in the U.S.Navy on a Sea Going Tug Boat ATA 189, covering areas of Guam, New Zealand and Hawaii. Following the service, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison before starting his career in the air pollution control business. His first position was with the Pulliam Power Plant in Green Bay. He then worked for many years and developed his expertise as a technical consultant selling electrostatic precipitators to coal fired power plants across the country and in Denmark. He loved his work and was well respected in his field. His hobbies included electronics, photography and obtaining a private pilot license. He logged almost 200 hours of flying time with family and friends as his passengers. In his later years, he loved using his computer and working with his high school class reunion committee. His retirement years were spent looking out over the Fox River and enjoying the wildlife and watching the boaters. The Hoaglund family Christmas tradition was to go to Grandpa's house. Cliff always went out of his way to make the visit extra special for his grandchildren. There were always surprise decorations and gifts. He married his beloved wife, Jeanette June Guex in Green Bay in 1952 and later relocated to Illinois to start a family. He is survived by his daughter, Brigette (John) Hoaglund and his two grandchildren, Erik and Lindsey, all of Elmhurst, Illinois. Survivors also include his niece, Sondra Goetsch of Sturgeon Bay, other nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette, brothers, Ed and Dan and sisters, Leona Rasmussen and Viola Mails. Friends may call at St. John Lutheran Church, 1700 Lost Dauphin Road, De Pere from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Friday, January 11, 2013.
