Harry W. Gigot, 101, of De Pere, died Sunday November 27, 2011 at a local nursing home. The son of the late August and Caroline (Rankin) Gigot was born June 28, 1910 in the Town of Gardner, Door County. He married the former Myrtle Goetz June 16, 1931 at St. Mary's Church in Maplewood. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2004. Harry's first paid job, at age sixteen was driving a team of horses at Horseshoe Bay Farms.
Later he drove truck for many years, for Olson Transportation and CW Transport, and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was also a security guard for JJ Security (later ITS), and received an award upon his retirement at age of eighty-five. He was proud of serving as a Brown County Special Deputy. Harry and Myrt owned and operated the Y Inn in Door County and Harry's Bar in Langes Corners. Harry enjoyed entertaining folks with his "Polka Cello", his dancing, and speaking Walloon (Belgian).
Survivors include his son Thom (Nancy) Gigot, daughter, Maureen (Jerry) Vanden Hogen; grandchildren Nikki (Todd) Wacker, Brian Vanden Hogen, Valerie (Bob) Stephan, Jessica Vanden Hogen, Pieter (Kim) Vanden Hogen. Great grandchildren, Austin, Ciara, Braeden, Makayla, Connor, Annabelle, and Liam, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson Tony, two brothers, Benny and Elmer, and three sisters, Evelyn, Emily, and Agnes.
Family and friends may call at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Road, Town of Ledgeview, from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, December 5, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Monday at the church with Father Gery Meehan, O. Praem. and Father Paul Vanden Hogen, officiating. Burial in Holy Name of Mary Catholic Cemetery, Maplewood on Tuesday at 9:00 am with Father Anthony Birdsall, officiating.
