Obituary

Harry James Martin, age 78 of Green Bay, WI passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021. He was born May 16, 1943, to Wesley Martin Sr. and Elizabeth (DeCoteau) Martin in Keshena, WI. He attended Shawano Senior High School and went on to join the United States Air Force, serving his country with pride. Harry married Elizabeth M. (Leisgang) Ashman on October 21st, 2017, in Seymour, WI. They shared a total of 16 beautiful years together. In his younger years, Harry worked for Paramount Studios, hauled loads of dynamite into the mountains, rode bulls and broncs, and drove stock car. Later in life, he took tremendous pride in being an Oneida AMVETS staff carrier for openings of meetings and powwows. He was a traditional dancer and would travel with his wife to local and out-of-state powwows. Harry worked for the Oneida Casino in valet, maintenance, and shuttle department for many years until his retirement. In his free time, Harry enjoyed watching NASCAR races, sports, old movies, and game shows. He absolutely loved his puzzle books. He also enjoyed going to the casino and playing left-right-center dice game at his family reunions and at holiday gatherings with Betsy's family. Harry believed in his Catholic faith and attended church regularly. If he couldn't be there in person, him and his wife would watch it on TV every Sunday morning. It was always traditional to start Christmas with attending Christmas eve mass at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. Harry was definitely a kid at heart and loved all of Betsy's holiday decorating – especially Christmas. He always bragged up Betsy's homecooked meals and desserts, telling her they were fit for a king even though he was the expertise at making the best grilled cheese sandwiches. Not a day went by where he wouldn't tell Betsy multiple times how much he loved her and how he was the luckiest man in the world to have her in his life. Harry also had a deep, unconditional love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was always there and willing to give a helping hand if needed. LeeAnn, Wayne, Leslie, Guy, and Jesse, he always loved you, so very much. Harry is survived by his wife, Betsy Martin; his children, LeAnn (Matt) Cornelius, Wayne Martin, Leslie Deer, Guy Martin, and Jesse Martin; his stepchildren, Tina Leisgang, Ryan Ashman (Amber Stevens), Katie Ashman (Michael Bourbonnais), Stacie Ashman (Alex Van Boxel), and Amber and Nick Hicks; his beloved mother-in-law, Dolores (Ollie) Leisgang, whom he called "Ma"; his sisters, Darlene Spantikow and Muriel Bzdowka; brother, James Martin and twin brother, Wesley Martin, Jr; as well as Harry's 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren along with his step-grandchildren, McKenzie Leisgang (Ryan Hicks), Ethan Kazik, Madison, Tyler, Emily, Charlie, Herby, Kylie, McKena, Greyson, Natalie, and step-great-grandson, Kaiden. Harry is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Elizabeth Martin; son, Harry (Manzie) Martin; grandparents, James and Ella Martin and Bazul and Minnie; his sisters, Joyce Peters, Delores Wilke, and Chantel Johnson; and his brother, Guy Allen Martin and his father-in-law, Ollie Leisgang. Friends and family are invited to gather at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth St. De Pere, on Saturday, May 14, 2022, beginning at 12:00PM until 1:00PM. A Memorial Service will begin at 1:00PM.
