Mrs. Melvin (Heleema) Jordan, 83, of Oneida, died early Saturday morning, January 16, 2010 at a local hospital. Heleema was born July 27, 1926 in Oneida. She was raised by Guy and Naomi John. On January 27, 1946, she married Melvin Jordan and the couple celebrated 56 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on October 18, 2004.
Heleema was active in the foster grandparent program, member of the Dodo Club, had worked at Oneida Casino. Prior to moving back to the Oneida area in 1992, she worked at Nor Dyne Corporation in St. Louis. Heleema was active in the Salvation Army both in St. Louis and Green Bay.
Survivors include her children, Geraldine (Bruce, Sr.) Benson, Sandra (Larry) Galbraith, Alan (Janice) Jordan, Karen Jordan, Elsie Gaddy, Stephanie (David) Coleman, Steven Jordan, Richard Jordan, Theresa Jordan, Carol Jordan and Lisa Jordan. 34 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, as well as three sisters, Sue Jordan, Jane Salzman, and Dorothy Emerson. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Melvin Jordan, Jr., two daughters, Janice Jordan and Norma Jean Jordan, two brothers, Valdor John and Jimmy Cooper.
Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday January 19, 2010. Oneida Hymn Singing will begin at 6:30 pm. Oneida Methodist Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday with Pastor Earl L. Smith, officiating. Visitation will continue on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home, 4830 Lemay Road, St. Louis, MO from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
