Obituary

James Henry Conway, 88 passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, WI on February 10, 2025, with family by his side. He was born in Chicago, Il on January 1, 1937, to the late Paul Conway and Vivian Lantz.

James entered the Army in March of 1955 and was honorably discharged in February of 1958. He was a light vehicle truck driver. He earned the sharpshooter M-1 badge, the marksmen carbine badge and the parachutist badge. While he was stationed in Germany he learned to parachute. It was also at that time that Elvis was in Germany, but they had never met.

After his time in the army, he worked at EKCO Products for 21 years, doing machine maintenance. He also worked at Imperial Eastman, Wauconda Tool and Die, and Home Depot. He retired in 1999 in Kingsford, MI.

As a young boy, James developed a passion for fishing. Every chance he got, he would be fishing. His favorite place to fish was at Gene's Pond, located in the U.P of Michigan. He enjoyed sharing the fish he caught with his family and friends. He also enjoyed cooking the fish for church fund-raisers.

He was a faithful and die-hard fan of the Detroit sports teams, especially the Detroit Lions. People in Wisconsin tried to change him to a Green Bay Packers fan, but that wasn't happening.

In 2014, he attended a Christian retreat. Jim always believed in God and his faith grew stronger after attending this retreat. He formed a special bond with some of the men that attended. He would often wear Christian clothing as a way of sharing his faith with others. He also enjoyed listening to the Bible on his phone every day.

James is survived by the love of his life for 47 years, Carol, as well as his daughter Lauren (Dave) Casey, and their children Alex and Brianna. He is also survived by his son David (Jodi) Conway, and their children, Sutton, Kellan, and Ronan. He is further survived by his previous spouse, Gail Page, and their children, Theresa, James, and Kathy.

He was preceded in death by his mother Vivian Quick, his father Paul, step-father Speedy Quick, and daughter Theresa.
