James "Jim" Davie, 83, Green Bay, passed away early Sunday morning, November 17, 2013. He was born March 12, 1930 in Edinburgh, Scotland to the late Andrew and Maria (Law) Davie. On Valentine's Day, 1998, he married the former Susan DeWitt Bodemer at Fox Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Jim was a founding member of the Harlequin Players performing in many plays, most notably Waiting for Godot, and The Devil and Daniel Webster. He was an avid hiker and mountain climber. Reaching the top of Mt. Rainier was a personal accomplishment of which he was very proud. Jim was also a world traveler, spending time across Europe, South Africa, and India.
In his professional life, James was the Director of Energy and Environment at Fort Howard. Previous to this he had worked at Davie Ship Building in Canada and Brown Brothers Engineering in Scotland. While at Brown Brothers, he helped to design the first steam powered catapult to launch aircraft from an aircraft carrier. James was also a member of the British Royal Navy. It was shortly after his service in the Navy that Jim traveled across the Atlantic to Canada. He stayed there for a brief time before moving to the United States, eventually settling in Green Bay.
Jim will be deeply missed by his wife, Susan; his son Andrew (Mandy) Davie; his daughters, Karen (Matt) Vaccarello and Elizabeth (Scott) Leist; grandchildren Steven, Hannah, Matthew, and Michael. His brother, Leslie (Liz) Davie, and his first wife, Willamina Davie further survive him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert, William, and Andrew; sisters Helen and Mary.
Friends and family are encouraged to gather at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere on Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 9:00-11:00am. A brief memorial service will be held at 11:00am.
