Obituary

James Lee Everson, 83, of Green Bay passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 15, 2010. He quietly and courageously battled Parkinson's Disease for over a decade. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.L. "Bert" Everson and Grace (Garbutt) Everson, and two sisters, Grace Mary Hoffman and Mary Jane Arndorfer, and also brother-in-law Joseph A. Neufeld. He is survived by longtime friend and companion, Ann Murphy; three sisters: Evaleen Neufeld, Edith "Tweety" Everson, Margaret (Jack) Manley, and brothers-in-law Robert Hoffman and John D. Arndorfer, along with many nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by six children: Kristin (Robert) Klein, of Fort Smith AR, Synneva Langefels, of Eden Prairie MN, Eric Lee Everson, of Ledgeview WI, Brett (Katherine) Everson, of De Pere WI, Jenny (Ronald) Wallberg, of Green Bay WI, Ingrid (David) Klein, of Bloomington MN; sixteen grandchildren: Megan, Carrie, Brett, Kellie, Erika, David, Alex, Jennalee, Rachel (Jack), Jessica, Leah, Christopher, Katy, Sarah (Trevor), Brendan, Ian; and two great-granddaughters: Kambria and Alexia. James was born on Valentine's Day in 1927. Raised in De Pere, he attended Central Catholic High School and went on to St. Norbert College. He put his college studies on hold during World War II and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he trained in San Francisco as a radar technician. Following the conclusion of the war he was honorably discharged and hitch-hiked back to his home in Wisconsin. There Jim completed his undergraduate studies at St. Norbert and was accepted into Marquette University's School of Law. He returned to Green Bay to join the firm that his father founded in 1922: Everson, Whitney, Everson & Brehm S.C. He continued to practice law into the early 1990s, specializing in defending medical malpractice cases and was also designated as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. On April 30, 1955 he married Nancy Christman at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. Jim was devoted to his family and his community. He served on several bank boards including People's Marine Bank, later Bank One. He was President of the regional chapter of the Wisconsin Democratic Party during JFK's campaign and administration. Jim was a dedicated supporter of Wisconsin Public Radio and Television. In his spare time, he could often be found on the tennis or racquetball court, or pursuing his love of travel. He was an accomplished pilot and sailor and enjoyed participating in the annual Chicago to Mackinaw Island race. He also enjoyed exploring the road less traveled with family and friends throughout his life. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Monday June 21, 2010 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Old St. Joe's Parish on St. Norbert College campus.
