Jim "Gopher" Franken, 61, of De Pere, died at his home on Friday April 13, 2018, following a brief illness. The son of the late James and Lorraine (Linnane) Franken was born February 11, 1957. He was a graduate of Abbot Pennings High School and NWTC, with degrees in power engineering and boiler operations. On August 10,1990, he married Melissa Martens at Old St. Joes Catholic Church. Jim had worked as project manager in the medical arts field for many years. He was maintenance supervisor at St. Norbert Abbey for over 20 years. Gopher loved all sports, especially basketball and football. Jim will be remembered for his kind heart and keen sense of humor. Survivors include his wife, Melissa "Missy," four children, Brianna, Carissa, Jimmy, and Amy Fideler, his siblings, Daniel (Joannie) Franken, Mary Sue (Jeff) Vande Leest, John (Janet) Franken, Tom (Kathleen) Franken, Tim (Patty) Franken, Jeff (Karen) Franken, Molly (Paul) Gevers and Andy (Anne) Franken. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Matthew. Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday April 18, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5:00 pm on Thursday at Old St. Joe's Church on St. Norbert College Campus with Father James Neilson, O. Praem, officiating. Overflow parking on Thursday evening is recommended in the Mulva Library Parking Lots. A memorial fund has been established.
