11:00 am - 12:00 pm (Central time)
James “Jim” Arthur Wilmer Marquardt of De Pere, Wisconsin left this world peacefully on March 14th, 2026, at the age of 91. The son of Arthur and Margaret Marquardt, he was born in Green Bay, WI on December 24, 1934, and grew up and lived his whole life in De Pere.
On October 6, 1962, he married Betty Jane (Anderson) Marquardt in McAllister, WI. He and Betty lived in Green Bay apartments before building their home on Driftwood Drive in West De Pere in 1966, where they raised their children, Daryl and Rob, and remained for 60 years until his recent move to assisted living just two weeks ago.
Jim was a pressman at Milprint in De Pere for 45 years, with a two-year stint in the Army where he was a personnel carrier driver, spending most of that time in Germany.
He loved working in the garden and around the yard. He could be found there almost every day. Anything would grow and thrive under his care. He was an avid bowler with a mean hook. He loved camping, playing card games with family, and reading the newspaper daily. He was an active member of St John’s Lutheran Church in De Pere, serving as the Treasurer for many years, singing in the choir, working with the quilting club, and being part of the men’s group.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Betty Jane Marquardt, his son, David James Marquardt, and his parents, Arthur and Margaret Marquardt.
Jim is survived by his sons Daryl (Lisa) Marquardt of Sun Prairie, WI, and Rob (Janeen) Marquardt of Pacifica, CA; two grandsons, Drew and Ian Marquardt; Sister Louise and brother-in-law Gerald Sheehan. sisters-in-law Eunice Hurt, Sue Anderson, and Ingrid Anderson; nieces and nephews, as well as several grand nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at St. John Lutheran Church, 1700 Lost Dauphin Rd. De Pere, WI 54115, on Wednesday March 25, 2026, for visitation starting at 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. James will be laid to rest next to his wife at Greenwood Cemetery in De Pere, WI.
The family wishes to thank the amazing caregivers at Home Instead and Hospice who allowed him to stay in his house as long as possible, which was his primary wish. And to the staff at Violet Meadows Assisted Living who made his last couple weeks comfortable.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Lutheran Church in the name of James Marquardt.
