James "Jim" Erwin Libert, 79, Green Bay, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, February 12, 2017. The son of Erwin and Marian (Burbey) Libert was born in Green Bay on July 30, 1937.
Jim lived his entire life in Green Bay and enlisted in the Army upon graduating high school. He spent most of his time in the Army stationed in Germany, and always joked that Elvis Presley stole a girlfriend from him.
Along with his brothers, Jim was a proud business owner. They owned four auto parts stores in the Greater Green Bay Area and founded Power Tool Service Company. He reluctantly retired at age 72, after instilling a strong work ethic in his children and grandchildren.
He loved to tell stories about the 1966 Packers, a group he rooted for, hung around with and got in "trouble" with.
Jim enjoyed sailing, downhill skiing, and spending time at the cabin in Little Sturgeon. More than anything, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. In 2016, he had the honor of becoming a great-grandfather for the first time.
Jim is survived by his children, Daniel Libert, Wendy (Bryan) Roma and Sarah (Randy) Kaufman; grandchildren, Hailey and Kirsten Libert, and Josi and James Kaufman; as well as great-grandson Carson.
He is further survived by his brother, Mike (Barb) Libert, sister-in-law Gail Libert, Jeanne Libert, and other members of his extended family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Marion; brother Larry, step-mother Connie Libert and other loved ones.
Family and friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth St., De Pere, beginning at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. A brief prayer service will take place at the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Entombment at Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Unity Hospice for their kindness and compassion in the past few weeks, as well as Tammy Vieaux for always making dad smile and letting him skunk her in cribbage.
Lastly, a special thank you to Jesse and the staff at Fox Harbor Pub & Grill, who treated Jim like family.
