Obituary

James "Jim" Nels Rasmussen, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4. He was a man of deep faith, quiet strength, and a heart full of love for those around him.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Sue, with whom he shared 44 cherished years. He was the proud father of three sons—Andy (Alicia), Steve (Kristen), and John (Liz)—each of whom he loved dearly. Jim was blessed with nine grandchildren—Ariana, Remy, Finnley, Myla, Annie, Margaret, Edward, Leo, and Lottie—who brought him endless pride and happiness. He is also survived by his four loving siblings—Sue (Chuck) Koehler, Kathy Rasmussen, Dan Rasmussen, and Amy Rasmussen Canady—as well as his sisters- and brothers-in-law: Barbara Taylor, Betty (Joe) Augustine, and Janice (Greg) Rabas.

Jim lived a life rooted in faith and family. He had a lifelong love of golf, spent many years as a football referee, and found great joy in watching his sons play sports. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed family camping trips to Devil's Lake. Some of his happiest memories were made at the Rasmussen family cottage—a place of rest, laughter, and togetherness. Whether enjoying a quiet morning on the porch or hunting with his sons, Jim treasured life's simple moments.

He was also deeply committed to giving back. Jim found purpose and fulfillment in volunteering with several organizations close to his heart, including Our Community Listens, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Rock Steady Boxing, and Habitat for Humanity. Through his service, he lived out his values of compassion, humility, and care for others.

His legacy is one of kindness, integrity, and unwavering belief. He cherished his lifelong friendships, touched the lives of many with his gentle spirit and steadfast presence, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.J. "Rass" and Erika Rasmussen, as well as his father- and mother-in-law, Donald and Mary Taylor.
