IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet Lynn
Olson
November 8, 1943 – July 6, 2024
Janet Lynn Olson - banker, activist, and all around remarkable woman - passed away on July 6, 2024 at home with family. She was 80.
Jan was born November 8, 1943, in De Pere, Wisconsin. Daughter of Frank and Florence Halloin, she was the youngest of three. She joins her parents, and her sisters Laurel Smits (Elwood), and Carol Zeller (Frank) at home with her heavenly Father.
Jan leaves behind her beloved husband of 40 years Ken E Olson; son Chad Gauger, wife Leigh and grandson Max; daughter Gwyn Hovey, husband James, and grandkids Nolan and Samare. She also leaves behind two stepdaughters, Colette Olson, sons Jacob, Peter (grandson Crew) and Alec Tanoos; and Shari Olson, son Jordan (grandchildren Jordan Jr, Asher, and Angelina).
After some college, Jan reinvented herself in the banking world, moving from teller to vice president of the loan department. She also found the love of her life. While in Appleton, Jan was the original soccer mom, Brownie leader, and mother extraordinaire. Before retirement in the north woods of Pickerel, Wisconsin, Jan also took on the county treasurer position to fill a need in her community. She fought the Exxon Crandon mine so fervently, there is a book dedicated in her honor. She created her own jewelry & candles, managed the family cottage in Door Co, and was steward to her deer, hummingbirds, and frogs. Her door was always open, her words were always kind, and her laughter unrestrained. She was devoted to her loved ones, her pets, her home, and her God.
Private family services will be held in the chapel at Saint Joseph's in New London on Friday July 26, from 10am -12pm. A celebration of life and graveside service at the family cemetery will be held Sunday, July 28.
