Jerry Klister, 82, longtime Kaukauna resident, passed away in Colorado Springs, Colorado on December 4, 2008. The son of the late Martin and Catherine (Vande Hei) Klister was born in Kaukauna on April 2, 1926. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WW II. Jerry married the former Bette Strick on October 4, 1947. He and Bette were active in the Kaukauna Alumni Association. In 1957, they were co-editors of the Alumni News and Jerry served as president, vice-president and on the board of directors and advisory board. Jerry worked for Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company for 39 years, retiring in 1987. The Klisters, who were also successful antique dealers, moved to Colorado in 1993, where they continued their buying and selling business.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Bette, two daughters, Karen (Jim) Hill, Barbara (Harry) Shiff, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters, Joan Klister, and Mary Ann Conrad, nieces nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bob and brother-in-law, Karl.
Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, from 9:00 to 11:00 am Thursday, April 2, 2009. A Service of Remembrance will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 am Thursday, which would have been Jerry's 83rd birthday. Inurnment will be held at St. Paul's Cemetery, Combined Locks.
