Jessica “Jess” Nell, 38, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

Jess was born in Milwaukee on November 9, 1987 and spent much of her youth in Green Bay, and most recently made her home in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. She graduated from Green Bay East High School and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, and went on to earn both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay.

Jess was a passionate and dedicated disability advocate who lived by the words, “Nothing About Us Without Us.” She was actively involved in numerous disability and long-term care organizations across Wisconsin, serving in roles as a board member, consultant, advocate, and athlete. Her work and voice made a lasting impact on many.

She found joy in spending time up north, listening to music, especially country, attending concerts and shows, participating in Bible studies, and sharing coffee and laughter with family and friends.

Jess is survived by her parents James (Juanita) Spielvogel; siblings Ryan Nell (Andrea Frisch); Hope (Brandon) Wesolowski, Makenzie (Brennen) Hart, Ashton Nell; and her nephew, Hudson. She is further survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sherry; her aunt, Judi; and her beloved service dog, Okwal.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Heartland Church of Sun Prairie on June 5th from 5-7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jess’s honor to the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities or a local animal shelter.
