JoAnn L. Meyer, 90, De Pere, passed away Wednesday evening surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 2, 1930 in Hartford, Connecticut to the late Malcolm and Marjorie Scribner.
JoAnn graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown, Connecticut. She went on to study at New York Institute of Dietetics for 18 months, followed by a 9-month internship at French Hospital, New York City. She met her husband, Lloyd, in Milwaukee, WI. They had 50 years of an adventurous marriage, before his death on May 5, 2005.
JoAnn worked at Bellin Hospital for over 30 years as a Diet Technician. Along with her husband, they owned Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere, until 1993. She and Lloyd loved to travel and vacationed worldwide. They both enjoyed sharing their adventures with family and friends. Living in the same house in De Pere for 55 years, every time JoAnn suggested moving, Lloyd would plan another trip; so they stayed on Grace Street raising their children, and welcoming grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long-time active member of First Congregational, United Church of Christ, De Pere. JoAnn volunteered at De Pere Christian Outreach and Young Artist Workshop at St. Norbert College. She was a member of the De Pere Women's Club and Bellin Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children; Robin (Gary) Schmitz, and Rex Meyer. Five grandchildren; Heather (fiancé Jimmy Margitan) Greenwood, Shannon (Troy) Plos, Candace (Brian) Rabas, Amie Sell and Kristina Sell. Nine great-grandchildren; Kaylee, Logan, Trey, Hannah, Emmett, Aubrey, Drew, Owen, and Ben. JoAnn's sister, Leslie DuMond, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as her two fur kids Jake and Shadow.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, daughter-in-law Mary Meyer, a brother Barrie (Ruth) Scribner, brother-in-law Jack DuMond, father-in-law and mother-in-law Henry and Agnes Meyer, brother-in-law Donald (Doris) Meyer, as well as beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends may call from 4:00PM – 6:00PM Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Ryan Funeral Home 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere. A private family service will take place on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at First Congregational, United Church of Christ, De Pere with Pastor Nancy Zorn-Micke officiating. JoAnn's family is grateful and thankful for the loving care provided by son-in-law Gary, granddaughters Heather, Shannon, and Candace, great-granddaughter Kaylee and special angel Karla.
