JoAnn graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown, Connecticut. She went on to study at New York Institute of Dietetics for 18 months, followed by a 9-month internship at French Hospital, New York City. She met her husband, Lloyd, in Milwaukee, WI. They had 50 years of an adventurous marriage, before his death on May 5, 2005. JoAnn worked at Bellin Hospital for over 30 years as a Diet Technician. Along with her husband, they owned Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere, until 1993. She and Lloyd loved to travel and vacationed worldwide. They both enjoyed sharing their adventures with family and friends. Living in the same house in De Pere for 55 years, every time JoAnn suggested moving, Lloyd would plan another trip; so they stayed on Grace Street raising their children, and welcoming grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long-time active member of First Congregational, United Church of Christ, De Pere. JoAnn volunteered at De Pere Christian Outreach and Young Artist Workshop at St. Norbert College. Five grandchildren; Heather (fiancé Jimmy Margitan) Greenwood, Shannon (Troy) Plos, Candace (Brian) Rabas, Amie Sell and Kristina Sell. Nine great-grandchildren; Kaylee, Logan, Trey, Hannah, Emmett, Aubrey, Drew, Owen, and Ben.
