Obituary

John F. ("Poppy") Rafferty, Jr., Age 71 of Hobart, WI passed away on Saturday, September 19th, 2015 following a long illness. John was born on September 26, 1943 in Chicago, IL to John F. Sr. and Edna (McCauley) Rafferty. John graduated from St. Ignatius High School (Chicago) in 1961, proudly served our country as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War, earned a Bachelor's Degree from St. Joseph's College (IN) and a Masters Degree from the University of Illinois - Chicago. John dedicated several years to the Chicago Police Department as a patrol officer; and manager in police personnel. He taught Police Science at NWTC and retired in 1993 as a Criminal Justice Instructor from the University of Wisconsin. John was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend and devout Catholic. He served as past President of the Parents' Club at Abbot Pennings High School, and proudly supported St. Joseph Academy, St. Ignatius High School and St. Norbert College. John recently celebrated his 46th Wedding Anniversary with the love of his life, Carol. He is survived by his wife, Carol, four children, John P. Rafferty, Peggy (James) McCann, Dan (Lisa) Rafferty, Patrick (Allison) Rafferty; five grandsons and one step-grandson; twin sister, Kitty Rafferty, brother, Bob (Eileen) Rafferty; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence (Patricia) Rafferty. The Rafferty Family is grateful for the outstanding care provided by Dr. Amy James, Dr. Charles Nordell, Dr. S.W. VanderWoude and the many providers at Bellin Health over the past 22 years. The Rafferty Family would also like to thank Unity Hospice for their skilled nursing providers and compassionate care. Friends may call on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM at Ryan Funeral Home, DePere, WI and on Saturday, September 26, 2015 10-12PM at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Green Bay, WI.
