John Alexander Rodon died peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Friday, June 7, 2013 following a short illness. He was born on May 1, 1940 in Batavia, NY to Mary (Kosciolek) Rodon and Dominic Rodon.
Following high school he moved to New York City where he attended The Parsons School of Design. John Rodon & Katherine (Katy) Reisdorf were married on June 17, 1961 in North Java, NY. They began married life in New York City where he worked for WJ Sloane Furniture where he developed his passion for art and antiques. They later moved to Albuquerque, NM before moving to Green Bay where he began his career as a buyer for the HC Prange Co. He later owned and operated the Instant Sign Factory in Green Bay before retiring.
John and Katy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011 surrounded by family and friends. John was proud of his children and celebrated their many accomplishments. He was a good and loyal friend who maintained relationships from his work years as well as from the neighborhood which he loved. John was a creative, quiet, and thoughtful man.
John appreciated fine food and wine through the "Men's Gourmet Club" dinners, yet loved his trips to Joe Rouer's in Duvall for burgers (sauteed onion please) and a beer.
He had a keen sense of style, loved interior design, along with landscape and garden design. This was reflected in his home where he regularly took on ambitious projects. He was a music aficionado of classical and jazz. Over the years he participated in many community activities including the Allouez Youth Soccer League; he was a great civic booster. In his retirement, he volunteered at the Green Bay Botanical Garden which filled him with joy.
John is survived by his wife Katy of Green Bay; daughter Colette Liane Rodon Hornof (William Rodon Hornof) of Chicago, IL; son Jonathan Thomas Rodon (Melissa Heitpas Rodon) of Green Bay and Jason Alexander Rodon of Breckenridge, CO. Also by his sister Louise (Rodon) Lakatos (Dr. Andras Lakatos) of Green Valley, AZ; nephew Peter Lakatos (Annie Blaha) and grand-niece Eleanor Lakatos all of Milwaukee, WI.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Green Bay Botanical Garden in his name would be appreciated. Ryan Funeral Home of DePere, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
