Steffen, Julie A.
Julie A. Steffen, 53, of De Pere, passed away peacefully on Christmas night at Unity Hospice in De Pere, WI. Her passing followed a daylong gathering of family and friends. Julie died after a nine-month battle with brain cancer.
The daughter of Dr. George and the late Ruth (Stell) Worm was born August 17, 1955 in Milwaukee. She was a 1974 graduate of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School in Milwaukee and a 1979 graduate of UW-La Crosse.
Her spirit remains alive in her daughters- Sara (24), Jenny (22), Claire (18) and Erin (16). Her immediate family includes brothers and sisters Jackie Worm, John (Judy) Worm, Susie (Randy) Roth, Mary (Jim) Donovan, Jane Linz, James Worm, Cathy (Dan) Ehlen and Tom (Susette) Worm, and Todd Steffen, father of Julie's daughters, as well as her father Dr. George Worm.
Julie moved to the Green Bay area in 1981 where she provided a loving home while raising the basketballin' Steffen girls of De Pere High School. She worked for a number of local employers, the last as a customer service rep at Eastbay of Green Bay.
The spirited woman with the contagious smile and laugh, Julie was always willing to help out wherever/whenever needed, being it cleaning St Francis Xavier church in DePere or volunteering at DePere High School athletic events or taking care of the elderly. She most enjoyed watching and guiding her four daughters as they grew into remarkable young women.
Friends may call at St Francis Xavier Parish, 220 So Michigan, De Pere from 2 to 6pm on Monday, December 29, 2008. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6pm, with Fr. V. Anthony Dolski Presiding, and Fr. John H. Harper Concelebrating. For those in the Milwaukee area, a Memorial Mass will tentatively be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 in the Milwaukee area. Time and date will be announced at a later date.
