June N. Demske, 84, passed away on Wednesday May 12, 2010 surrounded by family members. June was born February 14, 1926 in Nekoosa, WI. to Frank and Bessie Etmanczyk. She grew up in Racine, WI and graduated from Horlick High School. In 1947, she graduated from Bellin School of Nursing in Green Bay as an R.N. She married Arthur Demske on May 24, 1947 and they resided on the Demske family farm outside De Pere until 1983. He preceded her in death in May of 1998. June spent most of her nursing career in the pediatric department at Bellin and also developed the first Diabetic clinic there. After retiring from Bellin she worked at Deckner Clinic for 10 years as a Diabetic Instructor. Healthcare was her passion and she continued to work part time at Westcare Terrace as a caregiver until well into her 70's.
June devoted her life to her family and caring for others in need of her help. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good joke. She was very fond of animals, especially cats and dogs. She loved flowers and spent endless hours in her gardens as well as helping others with their gardens.She was an excellent crafter, making countless hand knit sweaters and scarves and hand painted ceramic items for her children as well as gifts for others. She also loved to travel and discover new places, traveling around the country and abroad. She was a devoted Wisconsin Badgers fan, attending two Rose Bowls. After she retired she learned how to golf and truly enjoyed her new sport. June was a long time member of St. John Lutheran Church in De Pere and Bellin Alumni Association as well as a past member of the Rockland Homemakers Club, The Rough Riders, Saddle Club and the Ledgeview Riders Saddle Club.
June was an extraordinary woman and passionate about experiencing life. She was the hub of her family wheel and she will be deeply missed by her seven children; Sandy (Gary) Krause, Big Falls; Dr. John Demske, Soldotna, AK; Barbara (Robert) Madding, Prescott, AZ; Judie (George) Viens, New Franken; David (Anita) Demske, De Pere; Rebecca Demske, Denmark and Lisa (Paul) Terry, Abrams. In Addition, she is survived by 9 grandchildren; Wyatt Christianson, Karin (Robert) Lyste, Joshua, Adinda, Cayla and Corine Demske, Cody (Kheenan) Halvorson and Jonathon and Ashley Terry; two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Claire (Doris) Etmanczyk of Madison, WI and sister, Francis Rice of Kenosha, WI. And several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved kitty friends, Betsy Ross and Callie.
In addition to her parents and her husband, June was preceded in death by her two brothers, Harry and Herman.
Family and friends may call at St. John Lutheran Church, 1700 Lost Dauphin Road, De Pere after 9:00 am Thursday May 20, 2010 until time of service. A Celebration of June's Life at a memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at the church with Revs. Brian and Andrea Cain, officiating. A lunch will follow the service at the church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial funds of June's choice have been established for Bellin School of Nursing, Cerebral Palsy Center, and St. John's Lutheran Church.
