Karen went to eternal rest on August 25th. She was born to Doris Jean (nee Taylor) and William Underwood Nelson on July 26th, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan.
She was the loving wife of Patrick for 41 years. She is lovingly survived by her son Dr. Nathan DeLorey (Jamie), daughter Nicole Walpole (Mark) and son Peter DeLorey (Angela Day). She is also survived by grandchildren Joel Panning, Elijah Day, Jonathan DeLorey, Haven DeLorey, Ethan Walpole, Conner Walpole, Lila DeLorey and Zachary DeLorey. Karen was an avid genealogist and diligently worked to establish the lines of the Nelson and Taylor Families. Through these efforts she established links to her Father's second family with Loretta, Bill Jr., Linda, David and Jim as well as many cherished links to her Nelson and Smith cousins, aunts and uncles. Her family was always the center of her life.
She received her bachelors' degrees from Wayne State University in 1973.
She enjoyed travelling the USA and the world throughout her life with trips to Canada, Japan, Europe, Mexico and Korea.
Karen was a passionate quilter and shared her interests and talents with many friends and groups throughout the State. She was thrilled to have a quilt selected this year for the cover of Sievers Fiber Arts and she co-led a monthly quilting group at Connected Quilters. She was also a Girl Scout leader and Service Chair in DePere.
Special thanks to her many friends who helped her thrive in all her activities. The family also wants to thank the Critical Care and Counseling Staff at St. Vincent's Hospital for their support during this most difficult time.
Funeral Services are at Ryan Funeral Home, 10th Street, DePere on Wednesday, August 29th at 6:00 PM. Visitation will be from 1 till 8 PM.
May God Bless and Keep you, Mother.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Bridge Between Retreat Center, Denmark, WI or your favorite charity.
