Kathleen E. Blankenstein, 79, of Pulaski, passed away on St. Patrick's Day, Sunday March 17, 2013 at a local nursing home. The daughter of Irish descendants, Patrick and Bridget (Ryan) Ryan, Kathleen was born January 19, 1934 in Chicago. She married The Very Rev. Paul Blankenstein on August 18, 1972. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2001. The couple lived in the Iron Mountain Area for many years where Fr. Blankenstein was the priest at St. Mary's Orthodox Church. Kathleen worked in administration at the Veteran's Hospital in Iron Mountain for many years. Mrs. Blankenstein was an active member of the Christian Orthodox Church and most recently worshiped at St. Matthew's Orthodox Church, Green Bay. She enjoyed reading and fishing. Kathleen was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. Her family includes one daughter, Kathryn (Joel) Giesau and one son, Robert (Christina) Blankenstein, her grandchildren, Andraya, Elise, Natalie Giesau, and Pavlos and Petros Blankenstein; two sisters, Phyllis Ryan and Bridget Mary Ryan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Maureen Jergens. Family and friends may call at St. Matthew's Orthodox Church, 1226 Redwood Drive, Green Bay from 4:00 to 6:00 pm (central time) on Thursday, March 21, 2013. Memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 am Friday at the Church with Father Maximus Cabey, officiating. Burial services will be held at Dickinson Memorial Gardens in Iron Mountain, MI at 2:00 pm Friday (central time).
