IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth
Johnson
August 7, 1948 – July 2, 2024
Kenneth "Randy" Johnson, aged 75, originally from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and a long time resident of De Pere, Wisconsin passed away at his home on July 2, 2024 after a long struggle with cancer. Randy accepted his terminal diagnosis with grace and above all, humor.
Humor was his trademark right up there with his generosity. Randy could always be counted on to "be there" for a friend regardless of the circumstances. Randy also loved playing pranks on his buddies many of which were cooked up at the regular Sunday morning "Mayor's Staff" meetings at his home where Randy presided as "Mayor" of De Pere. One might wake up to heavy equipment parked on the front lawn or a completely "gift wrapped " house during the Christmas season to name a few.
Randy worked for many years as a dispatcher for several different trucking companies. He excelled at his profession keeping track of multiple drivers, destinations, loads, and holding conversations all at the same time, never missing a beat.
Randy enlisted in the Navy in 1968, serving on the Destroyer, Richard E. Kraus until 1970. Following his honorable discharge from active duty he served in the Naval Reserve, joining the Seabees Construction Battalion. He received an honorable discharge from the Naval Reserve in 1990. He cherished his time in the Seabees and remained a "Navy" man his entire life. Randy took his duty to his country to heart and was proud to serve.
Randy loved fishing, boating, hunting and spending time in the Northwoods with friends and family. He found peace there. He never met a dog he didn't like. He made sure to have a supply of dog treats on hand. Randy was also an excellent cook, having worked as a chef in his younger days.
Lastly, but most importantly, Randy had a huge, loving heart. He loved his family fiercely and he was dedicated to his life long friends. He has left many friends with unforgettable memories of colorful times together. There will never be another like him.
Randy was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth W. Johnson and Dolly Erickson, and former wife, Shirley Johnson. Randy is survived by his sister, Janeece Leeuw and brother in law, Charlie Leeuw as well as his beloved nephews, Christian, John and Timothy Leeuw together with their families and former wife, Vicky Johnson. Also mourning his loss are many close friends who saw him through life's ups and downs.
A celebration of Randy's life will be held on Friday, August 9, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. followed by Military Honors at Ryan's Funeral Home, 305 N 10th St., De Pere, WI.
