It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Kenneth (Ken) J. Petersen who passed away on March 23rd, 2026. Born in De Pere on July 2nd, 1949, Ken was the oldest child of Elton and Mary Ada (Lamers) Petersen. A studious and driven man, Ken went on to graduate from St. Francis Elementary, Abbot Pennings High School, and St. Norbert College. Ken furthered his education and worked to receive his Masters Degree in Music Performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He began his career as band director at Clintonville High School and later at West De Pere High School and Middle School.
As a dedicated, patient educator who achieved national teaching certification and master adjudicator status for WI Solo & Ensemble competitions, Ken was well-known and respected for his excellent musicianship having played in several groups over the years, including the De Pere Bicentennial City Band which he founded in 1976. Other bands Ken played with include River City Six, Green Bay Symphony, Abbey Brass, Green Bay Packer Band as well as many other jazz bands. As a proud member of the De Pere Men’s Club, he delivered meals for ADRC. He also served on various civic and parish committees and was a routine blood donor. After retirement he was a frequent substitute teacher at West De Pere schools including the kindergarten level!
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sue, his three children Brigitt, Adam (Briana), and Hannah. Being a grandfather was one of Ken’s favorite titles and he was highly devoted to supporting the three granddaughters he leaves behind, Hattie, Molly, and Luna.
Ken was preceded in death by both his parents, Elton and Mary Ada, his brothers Brian and Mike, and his godson Cory.
We would like to extend our utmost gratitude to Dr. Heyka and Dr. Hess as well as Dr. Ough and the exceptional staff at Bellin Green Bay and Oconto for their care.
