Beloved husband, Father, Papa, Uncle and Brother, all these plus so much more.
Larry was born on August 4, 1947, to James and Virginia Puckett in Benton Harbor, MI. He often joked about the drawer he slept in and always had a good laugh when someone came across the picture of him in a parade as "Blossom Prince."
He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1965 with a degree in Computer Science, one of the first Universities to offer a degree in computers at the time when they took up an entire floor of a building!
Larry spent most of his working hours as a computer architect and programmer. He was among the first to have the foresight to buy a personal computer and develop software for the common marketplace as well as developing cutting edge technology on the 92nd floor of the Sears tower and for the U.S. Army during Vietnam. When not typing away at a computer, he loved being out on a bike trail or hiking in places you'd never dream to find him. Some of his favorite adventures took him to Alaska to hike glaciers, the floor of the Grand Canyon and the shores of British Columbia!
The trip he loved the most was also his most far-flung. He and Marian headed to Sweden and met her family as well as exploring that area of Europe. They tromped around Copenhagen and enjoyed an adventure the two of them had never had, in a place they had always wanted to visit. Going abroad was the trip of a lifetime for them both.
He also had a passion for less adventurous pastimes and enjoyed ballroom dancing (where he taught and even competed), music performances of all types, and reading a good book. He passed on his love for Disney, movies, and fantasy to his children and grandchildren and enjoyed sharing his most favorite genres with them, while sitting back and watching their reactions. He can be found in the background of many a museum, zoo or just neighborhood bike ride photo, making sure everyone is safe and enjoying themselves.
He also enjoyed planning many family trips down to the smallest detail. Not only the destination, but where to stay and what to eat, were on his agenda. Finding the tastiest hamburger was "HUGE". (One of his often-used words!) He wanted to make sure everyone had the best times and those are some of the fondest memories of him.
Larry is survived by his wife, Marian; two daughters, Sallie and Jenny; his grandchildren, Elin, Declan, Graden, and Eliza; his siblings, Barbara Radtke, Michael Puckett (Diane), and Jack Puckett (Renee); and nieces and nephews as well as more friends and loved ones than he probably realized.
A celebration of all things Larry Joe will be held at the DePere Community Center, 600 Grant St., DePere, WI 54115 on July 9th from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Please feel free to drop by and grab a slice of chocolate cake!
