Laverne M. Selissen, 101, passed to her eternal reward on February 11, 2018, at the home of her daughter. She was born March 24, 1916 to Jules and Cecelia (Fabry) Joachim. On June 22, 1937 she married Lawrence J. Selissen who preceded her in death November 18, 1980. Together they raised nine children.
She was a charter member of St. Michael's, De Pere. Mother embraced her vocation as a Catholic wife, mother and grandmother, setting a virtuous example for her offspring. She was never wanting for attention or acclamations, always putting others before herself. She was a loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent countless hours knitting mittens for cold winter days for her children, grandchildren and anyone in need. New babies each received a crocheted afghan. She enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty with family and friends. She was also an avid crossword puzzle solver.
She is survived by five daughters and two sons; Sister Jean Paul Selissen CSJ., Mary Jo Gerrits, William (Terry) Selissen, Kathryn Paque, David (Kris) Selissen, Rita (Steve) Lacenski and Ann (Dan) Shibler. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren. Her sister, Carol Whitbeck also survives.
Laverne was preceded in death by her daughter Sister Rita Lawrence CSJ and daughter and son-in-law Jean (Ron) Mooren; sons-in-law David Paque and Kenneth Gerrits; grandson Stephen Paque and two great-grandchildren, Karmel Klara and Dymphna Ullmer; one sister Dorothy (Gordon) Klika.
