Lawrence L. Abts, 80, New Berlin, formerly of De Pere, passed away early Friday morning, April 24, 2026. He was born on October 20, 1945, to the late Norman and Joyce (Anderson) Abts.

Lawrence graduated from Green Bay West High School. He then served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 until 1969.

On October 24, 1970, he was united in marriage to Shirley Van Vonderen at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna.

Lawrence was employed at Proctor & Gamble for 35 years before retirement. Never one to sit still, and an avid sports fan, Lawrence was the assistant varsity pitching and Catcher’s coach for the Ashwaubenon Girl’s Softball team for 28 years. Lawrence also Pitched in AAA Softball leagues, and played in nine world tournaments, and made the All-World team.

He also enjoyed traveling with Shirley and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, his sons; Brant Abts, and Troy (Elaina) Abts. His grandchildren; Katherine Abts, Grace Abts, Lydia Abts, Michael Abts, and Brody Abts. Lawrence is also survived by his sister Dianna (Dave) Cornelissen, and Shirley’s siblings; Karen (Tom) Portman, John Van Vonderen, and Lynn (Jim) Landers.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Ellie Abts, his parents, his brother Norman Abts Jr., brother-in-law Craig Van Vonderen, and his in-laws Joseph and Luella Van Vonderen.

Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 1305 Lourdes Ave., De Pere, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 9:00AM, until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM with Fr. James Baraniak O.Praem. officiating. Military honors will follow mass.

A memorial service for Lawrence will take place from 5:00PM – 7:00PM on May 21, 2026, at Regency Independent Living in New Berlin.
