Leona Krueger, 100, De Pere died early Friday morning, December 11, 2009. The daughter of the late John and Annie (Schampers) Smits was born November 2, 1909. She was a lifelong resident of De Pere.
On November 26, 1933 she married Irvin Krueger at St. Boniface Church, De Pere WI. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1959. Leona worked for St. Norbert College in the Sensenbrenner Memorial Union for thirty-five years retiring in May 1993. She enjoyed playing cards with her many friends and also bingo.
Survivors include two sons Gerald and Robert (Julie), one daughter, Jean (Chuck) Ritz, two grandchildren, Kurt (Kathy) Ritz and Michelle (Jeremy) Harnish, and six great-grandchildren, Abigail, Joshua, Jason, Charles, Miles, Jeremyah. Leona is further survived by brother-in-law Elton Krueger and by many nieces and nephews.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters Ceil (Elmer) McVey , Lillian (Harvey) Leloo, Regina (Tony) Minten, and two brothers Norbert (Lucile) Smits, Marvin (Gertrude) Smits.
Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Drive in De Pere after 9am Monday until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am with her nephew Fr.
