Loretta Rae (House) Webster, 84, Oneida, passed away at home with family by her side on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. The daughter of Walter and Pearl (Archiquette) House, she was born on January 3, 1939.
Growing up, Loretta lived on the Oneida Indian Reservation. She attended the Oneida Mission grade school and then went on to attend Saint Ann's School in Massachusetts. Loretta received her bachelor's degree from Ripon College and went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from the University of Madison in 1988.
On March 14, 1982, Loretta married Stanley Webster. Together they have seven children and fourteen grandchildren. Loretta spent her career as vice chancellor of the University of Stevens Point and went on to work for Oneida Nation as the Attorney for the Land Office.
She enjoyed creating and teaching raised beadwork with other aspiring artists in the community, reading, and spending time with her family. She was a founding member of the Woodland Indian Art Show & Market and advocated for Indian rights throughout her life.
Loretta is survived by her husband, Stanley Webster; children, Richard (Tina) Webster, Rae (David) Skenandore and Pete Webster; grandchildren, Dan (Tia) Webster, Eric Webster, Leona Soun, Justin Saldana, Guyewa Skenandore, Tanya Webster, Brandon Webster, Vincent Webster, Abby Webster, Elijah Webster, Zachary (Jenn) Schrap, and Eva Domencich.
Loretta was preceded in death by her mother Pearl, father Walter and sister Joyce Damrow, Ruth Skenandore, brother, Reginald Skenandore, and her son Lee (Lois) Domencich.
Family and friends may visit at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023. A memorial service with speakers Artley Skenandore and Sunny Hill, will take place at 11:00 a.m. with a meal to follow.
