Obituary

Lorraine S. Smet, 83, De Pere, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born March 8, 1926 in Green Bay, a daughter of the late Isador and Stella Lukasik. She graduated from East De Pere High School in 1945, then on June 4, 1947 she received her teaching diploma from Outagamie Rural Normal School. On August 21, 1948 Lorraine married Omer Smet at St. Mary Catholic Church, Glenmore by Fr. Joseph Kools. They celebrated 60 years of marriage together. Lorraine was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her perennial gardens; roses especially, sewing (she was proud of her quilt which she embroidered all 50 states on), bridge club, baking in general but apple pies in particular, and canning. Lorraine is survived by her husband Omer; three children: Mary (Dave) Sylvester, Allouez, James Smet, De Pere, and Joe (Lisa) Smet, De Pere; five grandchildren Maricica and Ellie Sylvester, and Matthew, Aaron, and Briana Smet; three step grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Lucille Rosik, Kewaunee; two brothers-in-law: Jerome (Vera) Smet, De Pere and Alvin (Betty) Smet, Green Bay; four sisters-in-law: Delores Lukasik, Melnick, Jane Smet, Green Bay, Joan Zuehls, De Pere, and Kathleen Vaessen, Pound; and nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Roman and Tony Lukasik; 4 brothers-in-law: Leo Rosik, Robert Smet, Merlin Zuehls, and Richard Vaessen, and two sisters-in-law Sylvia (William) Robertson and Viola(Terrence) Farrel. Visitation for Lorraine will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday, March 19 , 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, Corner of Suburban and Lourdes, De Pere from 9:30 AM until time of Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 at church with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O. Praem officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
