Marian "Peggy" Gilson Conard, 89, of Green Bay, died Friday June 4, 2010 at a Milwaukee hospital. Peggy was born December 3, 1920 in Kaukauna, the daughter of William and Petronella (Brittnacher) Gilbert. She graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1938 and married Douglas Gilson on June 10, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1968. She married Norman Conard on August 21, 1973 and he preceded her in death in 2009.
Peggy was a lifelong resident of the Fox River Valley, moving to Greenleaf in 1944 and to Green Bay in 1989. She had recently moved to an assisted living facility in De Pere.
She was a good writer, and very proud of writing awards won in her youth. She played the guitar and sang with her brother, Joe, at county fairs and other events as a teen. She loved to dance, and some of her fondest memories were dancing at the Nightingale in Kaukauna. While raising her family and in her later years, she enjoyed vegetable gardening and particularly prided herself on her tomatoes. She remained in touch with high school friends throughout her life, meeting for lunch monthly with them in their retirement years. One of the highlights of her life was a trip to the Philippines in the late 1970's.
She is survived by one son, Gary Gilson (Judy), Wrightstown, four daughters: Joyce Plansky (Bob), Ephraim; Janet Juedes (Len Willems), Algoma; Donna Gilson, Madison; and Gail Pierce (Bryan), Eagle River; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister, Joan Lauer, Port Washington; brother, Joe Gilbert (Maxine), Green Valley, AZ; and sisters-in-law, Jo Gilbert, Green Bay; and Norma Gilspn, Green Bay. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Marlyn Gilbert and Francis Gilbert; brothers-in-law, Donald and Percy Gilson; and sisters-in-law, Irene Gilson and Virginia Radloff.
