Obituary

The heart of the nicest man in the world stopped in the early morning hours of September 11, 2024. Mark Edward Peeters, son of Robert and Patricia (Burke) Peeters was born on December 21, 1954.

Mark grew up in the Catholic School System, graduating from Abbot Pennings High School in 1973. His class celebrated their 50th Reunion last summer and he treasured the enduring friendships begun in his teens. Mark completed his education at NWTC with a degree in transportation and continued in that field until his retirement in 2019. People he worked with, directed and served, admired his incredible honesty and integrity.

Mark enjoyed spending time with his wife of almost 44 years, Susan (always referred to by him as Girlfriend or G.F.). He found great joy and pride in their three sons, Christopher, Joseph and Timothy. Mark is especially grateful to beloved daughter-in-law Kristi for his treasured granddaughters; Kenzie May and Katelyn Rae. He was the BEST Papa ever. To watch him laugh and play with "his girls" was a joyous and beautiful experience. His generous spirit made him always open to the many "bonus" children who spent their formative years in his home.

Mark's son's childhood friends continue to express their respect and affection for him. He loved a good walk, CHOCOLATE (lots of chocolate :) Diet Pepsi, sports, yard work, fishing at the family cottage on Green Lake, and the South Carolina shore. No weather was too hot for him. Greatness often hides in plain sight, this was certainly the case with this good and holy man, who when asked for help always said yes. Mark was instrumental in the beginning of Helping in His Name Ministries begun during his years in the Atlanta area. Because Mark said yes this group continues to feed thousands of people each month. The answer was always yes when asked by his G.F. to assist in the music ministry at his Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes, though he refused to sing unless safely seated in his regular pew at the 4:30 Saturday Mass.

Mark greatly valued serving the Green Bay Area Religious Special Education program these past 26 years. There, he served as a catechist, chauffeur, friend and maintenance staff. All work offered with patience and good cheer. St. Francis said; "Preach the Gospel at all times, and if necessary, use words". Mark was a man of few words; he didn't need them.

Mark is survived by his beloved GF, Susan Shefka Peeters, his sons, Christopher (Kristi, Kenzie & Katelyn) Joseph and Timothy. His siblings Bob & Barb Peeters, Mary and Jim Oates, Patrick & Beth Peeters, Julie Boyea, and Jim Peeters & Sherry Jonet. His in-laws Kathy & Mark Masse', Debbie and Mark Guckenberger, Tom & Barb Shefka, Cindy & Wayne Bergholtz and Jim and Traci Shefka. Many nieces and nephews, dear neighbors and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Patricia Peeters and in-laws Walter and Laurella Shefka.

One Godly person can bring light to the world. Perhaps it is your turn. Be that person. In gratitude, Mark shared the gift of life with others through organ donation. In lieu of flowers, do something kind for someone, help a neighbor, share what you have, cherish the gift of life, pray always and go to church.

Family would like to extend thanks to De Pere Fire and Rescue for their tremendous effort and gentle kindness; and the staff of St. Vincent hospital Emergency Department.
