Obituary

Mark N. Powless Jr., 90, of Oneida, WI, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024, at Anna John Nursing Home. Mark was born on March 29, 1934, to the late Mark Powless Sr. and Margaret Stevens. Mark married Shirley King on Friday April 13, 1962, in Chicago, IL, and they were sealed for time and all eternity on October 10, 1972, in the Ogden Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah. Mark also served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S.– Wisconsin working with practice drones.

After his service, he returned to Oneida and joined his brothers as an iron worker out of Local 8 in Milwaukee. Some of the structures that he worked on were the Sears Tower in Chicago, The Mackinaw Bridge in Michigan, the Golden Gate Bridge in California, and the Tower Drive Bridge here in Green Bay. After he retired, he served on the Oneida Business Committee.

Mark enjoyed dancing and traveling with his wife. They traveled to the Hawaiian Islands, Jamaica, and across the United States. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching the Packers, and watching classic movies. He loved going to all his grandchildren's and great – grandchildren's ball games.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley, his son Christopher (Jane) Powless, his grandchildren Jerrel, Isaiah, Amber, Caitlin, and many great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister Marge Stevens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kim, and his siblings, John, Purcell, Lorraine, Dorothy, Mary, Herb, and Eugene.

Friends and family call from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Oneida Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on N6135 Seminary Rd. The Oneida Hymn Singers will begin their song service at 10:15 AM. Funeral services will begin immediately following the Oneida Hymn Singers at 11:00 AM with Bishop Keith Stoddard presiding. Ryan Funeral Home in De Pere is assisting the family.

A Special Thank you to the staff at Bellin Hospital and Anna John Nursing home in Oneida for their kind and attentive care of Mark. Another thank you to everyone who made time to stop and see him at the hospital and the nursing home. Thank you as well to the VA Hospital and Unity Hospice.
