Marvin Nienhaus, 70, of Greenleaf, died Monday January 19, 2009 at his home (Brown County Mental Health Center). The son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Petrie) Nienhaus was born January 27, 1938 in Greenleaf.
Despite his disabilities, he was a cheerful, hardworking man who always had a sunny disposition. He enjoyed John Deere Tractors, gardening, recycling soda cans, repairing wheelchairs, Special Olympics participation and helping out wherever he could, whenever he was asked. He farmed in Greenleaf with his dad, his brothers, and his neighbors for over 45 years. He held a close, loving bond with all those neighbors and friends for all those years, and the friendships continue on to this day. It truly does take a village to foster the growth and development of a great guy like Marvin.
He will be sadly missed by all who had come in contact with him over his many years, especially the warm and caring staff and other residents at the Brown County Mental Health Center for the past 23 years. If all those names were included, it would encompass several columns. All of you know who you are, and Marvin's nieces, Sue Pranke and Gail Genereau, and his sister, Rosemary Pranke express warm and genuine appreciation for the years of friendship.
Survivors include his brother Ralph (Ione) Nienhaus , Crivitz, three sisters, Rosemary and William Pranke, De Pere, Florence Beining, and Bernice Clark, Greenleaf; as well as Roger (Karen) Nienhaus, a nephew who was raised as Marvin's younger brother; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Albert, Ellsworth, Raymond, and Henry, Jr., and one sister, Dorothy Severson.
Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME , 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday January 23, 2009. Parish prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue after 9:30 am Saturday at St. Mary Catholic church, Greenleaf, until time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at the church. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Please visit www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the Nienhaus Family. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a fund has been established for Marvin's Memorial Garden Walkway at the new Brown County Mental Health Center. The Nienhaus family extends a special thanks to Heartland Hospice, especially Patrice, R.N. and the other hospice workers for their care and comfort.
In addition, on this Tuesday, January 27th, a memorial birthday party for Marvin will be celebrated at the Brown County Mental Health Center.
