Mary Jo (Scheriff) Gussert, 80, Greenleaf, passed away at home in the early hours of Saturday, July 9, 2022. The daughter of Herbert and Theresa (Dura) Scheriff was born in Escanaba, Michigan on August 23, 1941. On May 23, 1964, she married Donald Gussert at St. Joseph Church in Escanaba. In their early years, Mary Jo and Don loved to bowl and golf. They were long-time members of Hilly Haven Golf Course. Mary Jo was a proud homemaker and volunteered her time as a 4-H leader and cook at St. Mary's School. She later worked at the credit union and Life's A Stitch. Mary Jo loved to knit and quilt, and Don lovingly referred to her numerous quilting and knitting groups as "Stitch 'n B****." Above all, Mary Jo loved her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Philip (Vickie) Gussert, Jacki (Jim) Fischer; son-in-law, Dean Bowers; grandchildren, Zachary (Olivia) Gussert, Chassity (Mike) Gilbertson; great-grandchildren, Turner, Novalee and Evelyn. She is further survived by her siblings, Jerry (Lois) Scheriff and Evie (Michael) Quinn; sister-in-law Joyce Scheriff; as well as many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents, Herbert and Theresa; daughter, Pam; siblings Jeanie Marie, Tony and Herbert; and other members of her extended family. Family and friends may visit at St. Clare Parish – St. Mary Greenleaf Site, 2212 Day Street, Greenleaf beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Brian Wideman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank the many family members, friends and neighbors who helped look after Mom in her times of need. It's thanks to you all that she was able to remain in the home she loved.
