On Saturday, June 25, Mary Jo Herdman passed away at age 91 at her home in De Pere after a short illness.
Mary Jo was born on February 15, 1931, in Lumberport, West Virginia to Cyrus and Nelle (Murphy) McHenry. On December 31, 1957, she married Francis W. Herdman, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Heather of DePere, her daughter Hilary, and son-in-law Daniel Kaufer, of Philadelphia, PA. She also is survived by a niece, Michele Bozzell, and a nephew, Doug Turda.
She received her B.A.. from Fairmont State College and M.S. from West Virginia University, and began her educational career at Parkersburg High School (WV). She joined the faculty of Marietta College, in Marietta, Ohio, and was later named Chairman of the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance. In addition to her roles as a professor and advisor, she was well-remembered for her advisory role to the college Folk Dance group.
She retired from Marietta College and moved to Hilton Head Island, SC, with her husband in 1990. In 2015, Mary Jo made the move to Wisconsin to be near her younger daughter. She enjoyed gardening, bridge, and frequent international travel. Her interests were broad, ranging from dance and theater to Tai Chi and swimming. She was also a very curious, speedy, and avid reader.
A high Latin Funeral Mass will be celebrated at10 AM on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Oratory, 211 N. Maple Ave., Green Bay, WI 54303.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Heartland Hospice or to Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio.
The family would like to particularly thank her nurse practitioner, Jessica Flaeschel, the Heartland Hospice team members, especially Jenn her nurse, for their care and attention. To her regular caregivers - Donna, Kari, Dawn, and Heidi - our most heartfelt thanks for making a difficult situation so much easier for Mary Jo and Heather.
