Obituary

Mary A. Martens, 60, of Allouez, passed away Sunday evening November 28, 2010. The daughter of the late Marvin and Dorothy (Van Sistine) Smits was born April 29, 1950 in De Pere. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy, Class of 1968. On June 30, 1972, she married Al Martens at Old St. Joes Church in De Pere. Mary had worked at the Urban Frog for many years. She and Al were involved in the Green Bay Marriage Encounter since 1988. Mary served on the National Board for Marriage Encounter for many years. Survivors include her husband, Al, one son, Scott (Melissa) Martens and their children, Nicholas, Lucas and Haley; one daughter, Kimberly (Kurt) Gunn and their children, Emily, August and Josephine; brother, Joe (Julie) Smits and Mary's nieces and nephews, Bill (Deana) Smits, Nora (Dan) Scray, and Joanne Smits. Mary is further survived by her wonderful friends, Susie DeRuyter and Jo and Pat Schuessler, as well as all of her Marriage Encounter friends. Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 3, 2010. Visitation will continue at the funeral home after 9:00 am Saturday until time of service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday December 4, 2010 at the funeral home with Father Bob Rhyner, officiating.
