Mary K. Van Beckum, 88, of De Pere, left this world to be with her husband, Norbert, on Monday November 21, 2011. The daughter of the late Zachary and Mathilda (Clune) Vandeveld was born December 7, 1922 in Green Bay.
Mary was a graduate of East High School. She married Norbert Van Beckum on May 20, 1950 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Green Bay. Norb preceded her in death on April 18, 2009. She was a longtime member of the Sullivan-Wallen American Legion Post. Mary was a bookkeeper at Badger Sheet Metal and Krueger Hardware-later Danen Hardware in De Pere. She and Norb were co-owners of Lamp Shades Unlimited in Historic Downtown De Pere from 1975 to 1993. They sold the family business to their late son, Bob, and their daughter Kathy Kordes who continues to run the store. Mrs. Van Beckum loved playing bridge,, gardening, knitting, and more recently, playing bingo. She was an avid Brewers and Packer Fan.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Ted) Kordes, De Pere, two sons, Daniel Van Beckum, De Pere and Jim (Cindy) Van Beckum), Appleton, her grandchildren, Eric (Angela), Jonathan (Becca), Zachary, Paul, Christopher, and Bridget, one great-grandson, Jackson Kordes, one sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Willard Ihde, Green Bay and three sisters-in-law, Pat Vandeveld, De Pere, Mary Van Beckum, Arlington, TX, and Lorraine Van Beckum, Stevens Point. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norbert, son, Robert, and her brothers, John "Ralph", Joseph, Robert and Hubert Vandeveld.
Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday November 27, 2011 (Today). Parish Prayer service will be held at 6:30 pm. Sullivan-Wallen American Legion Post Auxiliary Service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:30 to 11:00 am Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Road, Town of Ledgeview. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Monday at the church with Father Richard Getchel, officiating. Burial in Allouez Cemetery.
