Our beloved Dad, Husband, Son, Brother; Matthew O-Kwal Al-Hul Powless, 49, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The son of Matthew and Eleanor (LaRock) Powless was born August 28, 1975.

Growing up, Matthew was a member of Oneida Longhouse and was proud of his Oneida heritage. In his early years, Matt liked pow-wows where he would sing and dance traditionally. Through his High School years he participated in sports, youth programming, while learning Oneida Traditions. He was a graduate of Southwest High School. In his young adult life Matt met his wife Lousnese and they married in 1999; shortly thereafter they were blessed with two children Matthew and Kaylynn.

He spent his career as a laborer with various logistical companies in the Green Bay area and in the past was employed with the Oneida Nation.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and had a smile and laugh that could brighten anyone's day. In his free time going on nature hikes, playing disc golf during the summer months and singing, dancing, and trying out new cooking recipes. He loved to cook Hull Corn Soup; the secret family recipe.

Matthew is survived by his wife; Lousnese Wells Powless, Son Matthew Powless Jr., Daughter Kaylynn Powless, siblings Jack (Jeanette) Powless, Pete (Ma-Ling) Powless, Noreen (Friend Jim), Yvette, Terry, Shannon (Bruce) Wilber,.

He was preceded in death by his dad Matthew Powless, Grandparents Peter & Marcella Powless, Joseph & Sophia LaRock along other special family members (Aunts, Uncles and Cousins).

If you were ever fortunate to know this man that we all love and will miss, please join us at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at noon. Burial will follow at Oneida Sacred Burial Grounds.
