Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dr. Maureen O'Meara Manion passed away on August 24, 2025. Maureen was born in Darien, Connecticut, on March 21, 1938, to Francis and Doris (nee Haggerty) O'Meara. She earned her undergraduate degree at Trinity College; her master's degree at Boston College, and her Ph.D. in Constitutional History at the State University of New York-Albany. She served on the faculty of St. Norbert College from 1983 until her retirement in 2001, receiving tenure and promotion during her time there.
She met the love of her life, Thomas, and they married on Cape Cod in 1959. They settled down in Rhode Island. They moved their growing family to Albany, New York, in 1973 and to DePere, Wisconsin, in 1983.
Maureen was devoted to her family, guiding them in all aspects of their lives with her love, humor, kindness, and faith. A natural and gifted teacher, she impacted so many lives, and she will always be an unfailing source of strength and inspiration for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Thomas; her parents; her sister, Sheila Lowenstein; and her grandson John Francis (Jack) Manion.
She will be sadly missed and joyfully remembered by her children Gregory (Joanne); Marcella (Michael) O'Malley; Andrew (Amy); Margaret Close; Christine (John) Manion Reiss; Victoria (Gary) Fleming; Thomas III; and her grandchildren Shauna (Nick), Kerry (John), Bridgid & Jillian; Michael Tom (Ashley) & Grainne; Olivia, Kevin & Clare (Mike); Patrick (Sarah), Mary, Michael, & Katie; Thomas Owen & Noah; Steve (Fran), Isabelle & Rosemary; Emily, Max, & Mason; and her great-grandchildren Nora, Maeve, Wesley, Finley, Michael, Gregory, and Oliver; and her sister, Karen O'Meara Pullen (Des).
Friends and family may call for visitation Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N Tenth Street, De Pere, WI from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. A prayer service will be held immediately following the visitation at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 29 at 11:00 am at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthews St, Green Bay, WI 54301.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manion Family Scholarship at St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI.
