Meinhard "Meinie" Loppnow was born on June 2, 1940. He grew up on the family farm in the town of Morrison, Wisconsin, the son of Meinhard and Della Loppnow. Also in his household were his uncles Reinhold and Herbert and brother Wilbert.
He went to Zion Lutheran School in Wayside, graduated from De Pere High School, earned an associate degree in architectural engineering from Green Bay Vocational School, and studied commercial art and design in Minneapolis. He enlisted in the Army. After six months of active duty, he served in the reserves for six years.
He began his art career at Temple Studio in Appleton and then at Badger Paper Company in Peshtigo before working at Romo Screen Printing Co. in Green Bay and De Pere for 34 years. He retired in 2000.
He married Alice Lindstrom and together had 4 children and 10 grandchildren, plus one on the way. He enjoyed family vacations, traveling, and special gatherings, often spending time at the 5-generation farm homestead. A highlight in his life was a photo safari to Kenya. Travels, nature, and farm buildings became the subjects of his oil and acrylic paintings, many finding their way into art shows and area galleries. He loved the outdoors, animals, gardening, photography, and spending time in the woods appreciating God's creation.
His faith and church were always important to him. He enjoyed sharing God's love with others and remained active in Christian service at Hope Lutheran Church in De Pere, taking on many roles, including teaching Sunday school, leading Bible classes and discussion groups, and singing in the Praise Team.
As he entered his eternal home, he leaves behind his wife Alice; children Greta (Brian) Hietpas, Eric (Kerry), Marc (Cindy) and Joshua (Jessica); grandchildren Claire (Ben) Hecht, Samuel and Emma Hietpas, Kylie, Taylor, Madison, Ella, August, Oliver, and granddaughter on the way Loppnow; brother Wilbert, sister-in-law Joanne Lindstrom, and brother and sister-in-law David and Linda Lindstrom. He was preceded in death by his parents, uncles, granddaughter Sophie, and brother-in-law Greg Lindstrom.
