IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael William
Shade
February 13, 1957 – April 20, 2023
Michael W. Shade passed away on April 20th, 2023, at the age of 66, after fighting a lengthy illness.
Michael was born on February 13th, 1957, to Marianne Swanson Morris and the late Robert Shade Sr, and grew up in Green Bay and enjoyed summers at Round Lake, Michigan and Door County, Wisconsin. He graduated from Preble High School in 1975 and attended UW Oshkosh, UW Madison, and the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD).
With a love for adventure and creativity, Michael channeled his passions into sailing and art, becoming an experienced sailor and well-respected artist. Michael enjoyed spending hours on the water with great friends honing his sailing skills. He sailed and crewed various boats throughout the Great Lakes and on the waters of Door County. One of Michael's greatest joys was participating in big sailboat races like the Chicago to Mackinac Race. His love for sailing extended to the winter months, where he could often be found ice boating across frozen lakes at top speed in his beautiful DN boat that he built by hand.
Michael's artistic talent and his work were admired by many. His paintings and sculptures captured the beauty of nature, and his unique style and perspective set him apart from others in his field.
In addition, Michael was a devoted father to his son, William, and took great pride in William's service as an Army Special Operations soldier.
Michael is survived by his son, William Shade; mother, Marianne Swanson Morris; uncle, William Shade; brother, Robert (Margaret) Shade Jr as well as many nephews and cousins. Michael is preceded in death by his father, Robert Shade Sr; uncle and aunt, William and Marilyn (Kress) Swanson and aunt, Julie Shade.
Private family services will be held at the Ryan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Michael W. Shade Memorial Fund at the Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, WI 54115, for the benefit of the Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek, Wisconsin. Online condolences may also be sent to Ryan's website: ryanfh.com.
