Michael Cohen, 70, passed away at home with family by his side on August 8, 2023 following a battle with cancer. The son of Charles Bernard and Joyce (Matzke) Cohen was born on November 23, 1952. On August 29, 1981, he married Nancy Pearson in LaValle, Wisconsin.
Mike grew up in Langes Corners and went to Langes Corners Grade School, later graduating from Denmark High school in 1970. He enjoyed participating in sports, especially football.
In 1974, Mike graduated from UW Whitewater with a degree in accounting. He worked for the UW System in Madison and later UW Whitewater as a budget planner, retiring in 2011.
Mike had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. He loved to tell stories including every detail. His interests were so many, and he was generous with his time.
Mike had many hobbies, including coaching youth football, genealogy, traveling, politics and reading. He was a member of the Misty Meadow Condo Board, the Our Lady of Lourdes Finance Committee, the Board of Friends of St. Patrick's of Maple Grove and a member of the Denmark Knights of Columbus Fr. Platta Council 4735.
He had a strong faith and practiced it every day. Mike was devoted to his mother and father and took responsibilities seriously. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by many, many people.
Mike is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter Reina (John) Ferreras and their daughter Johanna Rei "JoJo." He is further survived by his mother, Joyce; brother Kevin (Janet) and Charles (Sara) Cohen; sister-in-law Lisa Cohen; brother-in-law John (Janis) Pearson; sisters-in-law Susan (Doug) Hahn, Janet (Mike) Grman and Jean (Ron) Schneller. Mike is even further survived by many nieces, nephews, and valued friends, as well as many Cohen and Matzke cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Bernard Cohen, his mother and father-in-law Archie and Shirley Pearson; sister, Connie; brother, John; nephews Jon Steffens and Paul Schneller and his niece Jane Pearson.
Family and friends may visit at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1307 Lourdes Avenue, De Pere, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. James Baranaik O.Praem. officiating.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Compassus Hospice. Memorial donations will be made to the Denmark Knights of Columbus Fr. Platta Council 4735 and the American Cancer Society.
