Mildred E. "Millie" Wellner, 86, De Pere, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017, surrounded by family. The daughter of Elmer and Esther (Helgerson) Anderson was born June 4, 1930.
Millie was the youngest of five children, and grew up on a farm in the Town of Glenmore. Her mother passed when she was three years old, and by twelve she was making dinner for the threshing crew on the farm. She attended Kiley School through eighth grade, and she had a lifelong passion for learning.
On August 26, 1950, Millie married Roy Wellner of Reedsville. They raised four children together and recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. She was a proud mother and was home raising her children until the youngest was in school.
Millie then became a teacher's aide at Westwood Elementary in West De Pere, and did so for twenty years. She was a role model for her students, and helped instill values for outside of the classroom as well, above all, caring for others.
Millie made the best peanut butter bars, and she made sure they were there for every family gathering. She liked to fill out the daily crossword and loved to play cards, especially cribbage and sheephead. She was never afraid to pick up the blinds and play alone.
Above all, Millie loved her family. She was a great wife, loving mother and proud, caring grandmother and great-grandmother.
Millie is survived by her husband of over 66 years, Roy; her children, Mike (Darlene) Wellner, Sharon (Dan) Gerrits, Jim (Ruth Aerts) Wellner, and Colleen (fiancé Steve Austin) Albers.
She is further survived by nine grandchildren, Courtney (Bryan) Dearinger, Brent (Sarah) Wellner, Brian (Shannon) Gerrits, Sarah (Paul) Berndt, Crystal (Joe) Gerarden, Bart Wellner, and Carly, Caitlin, and Callie Albers.
She is even further survived by her nine great-grandchildren, brother Sylvester Anderson, brother-in-law Terry Wellner, brother-in-law Norb Lebalas well as other members of her extended family.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Esther, siblings and siblings-in-law, Selma (Ruben) Labs, Ethel (Ray) Sawicki, Lois (Elmer) Zeamer, Sylvia Anderson, Tom Wellner and Suzanne Lebal, and son-in-law Chad Albers.
