Metoxen
April 1, 1967 – February 19, 2024
Mitchel Roy Metoxen, 56, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 19, 2024 at his home in Seymour, WI. The son of Roy and Lida (Parkhurst) Metoxen, was born on April 1, 1967, in Green Bay. He was a proud member of the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin.
Mitch graduated from West De Pere High School. Further, he earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay, in Political Science/Public Administration and his Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. He loved and lived for higher education.
Mitch served in the United States Marine Corps as a Military Policeman from 1990 to 1994 serving in Okinawa, Japan and Quantico, VA. When asked why he wanted to be a Marine, his comment would always be "it was the only branch of service that wasn't on the (family) wall."
On March 3, 1990, he married is wife Glenda and together, they built a life raising their daughter Kennedy, his pride and joy in any conversation.
He spent his career working for the Oneida Tribe of Indians, lastly working 26 years with the Higher Education Department. Prior, he was employed with the Oneida Security Department. His passion laid with helping and serving the Oneida Community.
Mitch enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, watching the Packers and Brewers, taking long walks with his dog, Murphy and watching Fox News. Often times driving through the reservation, he could be heard saying "I use to pick apples there," and "I use to hunt rabbits there."
He is survived by his wife, Glenda; daughter, Kennedy; siblings, Dale "Rick" (Tammy) Metoxen, Kenneth Metoxen, Lynn Metoxen, Lyle (Laurie) Metoxen, Godson, Dale Metoxen, Jr., nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended family and countless friends.
Mitch was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lida; siblings, Jeffrey "Jeff", Alphian "Al" and Laurie "Lobie" Metoxen.
Family and friends may visit at The Church of the Holy Apostles, 2937 Freedom Road, Oneida, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024. The Oneida Hymn Singers will begin at 10:30, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00. Burial will follow at the Holy Apostles Cemetery with full military honors.
