Nancy Ann Geurts, everyone's "Nana", lost her battle with Alzheimer's disease surrounded by the love of her family on February 6, 2021. Born to Alice Margaret and Donald Martin Vandehei on April 22, 1948, she was the oldest of 6 girls. Nancy was raised in West DePere, attending West DePere High School where she met her High School Sweetheart and future husband Eugene Geurts. The two wed on October 11, 1969.
Over the next 7 years following their wedding, Nancy gave birth to her 3 Children. She was very proud of them. She enjoyed her trips down to Milwaukee to watch Brian play basketball and get her favorite Edwardo's Pizza, heading down to visit Michelle in Oshkosh for a shopping trip at the outlet mall, or visiting Niki at the mall to see the latest new items at County Seat. Those three children blessed her with what brought her pure delight, her 11 grandchildren. When they were little, she loved to hug and rock them singing "I love you, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck". As they grew up, she spent many a weeknight or Saturday attending volleyball, hockey, baseball, soccer, and dance competitions. She wore her grandma buttons with pride and cheered loudly so they knew she was there.
Nancy worked for many years at St. Joseph School with both of her parents taking care of the schools' janitorial needs. Following her time at the church, she shared her contagious smile with the students and staff at St. Norbert College working in the cafeteria and catering services area. She then decided to take her "Nana" responsibilities home and watched some of her nieces and a few close friend's children. She loved the children that she watched, spoiling them with cookies and her best baked treats. As the children went off to school, Nancy began a 20+ year career at Eileen's Candy. Nancy was very proud of the work she did and loved the people she worked with. She was an extremely hard worker and would always help to make sure the job got done.
Outside of her children and her work, Nancy enjoyed getting together with her family and friends. Every Sunday morning, she could be found at Our Lady of Lourdes for mass followed by a few moments of catching up with friends on the church steps. At any family event, she could be counted on to bring her Cowboy Beans, Cherry Torte or Famous Carrot Cake. On any night she would pop in with a pizza or join you out for a good fish fry at a local restaurant. At a family wedding, you could count on her to cut a rug on the dance floor and beat you to the bar for a shot. Nancy was a friend to all who knew her and to those who just met her.
Nancy is survived by her Husband Eugene, children Brian (Colleen) Geurts, Michelle (Craig) Verhagen, Nicole (Dan) Kostrova, grandchildren, Brett, Jessica, Brianna, Sierra, Craig, Molly, Lauren, Megan, Sam, Hudson, and Flynn, 4 of her sisters, many brother and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and many close friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Alice and Don, in-laws Clarence and Mary, her sister Linda and her nephew Charlie.
A special thank you to all the nurses at Allouez Park Side Village for their friendship and care over the last 2 years. Also thank you to Heartland Hospice for their dedication to her last few moments of life. We are forever grateful for the love both groups of amazing nurses shared with her in the year of COVID when they treated her like family.
Visitation will be from 9:00AM until 10:45AM Thursday February 11, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, De Pere followed by a Mass of Christina Burial at 11:00AM with Fr. A Celebration of her life will be held this summer for her family and friends to join outside and enjoy each other's company as Nancy would have wanted.
