Obituary

On the early hours of Sunday morning, of March 13th, 2022, with his parents by his side, Nelson "Nelly" James VandeHei was welcomed to his heavenly home. Nelson was born May 27th, 2005 in Green Bay, Wi., to his parents Dawn and Jeremy VandeHei. Upon birth, Nelson was welcomed into the "family name club" following many generations of Nelsons. At an early age Nelson already showed his undeniable Charisma by entertaining family members and friends with his funny imitations. As Nelson grew, so did his passion for food that carried on throughout his life. He enjoyed watching the Food Network and loved having food debates. This was reflected frequently on his social media posts. He had an enormous sweet tooth. He loved circus peanuts, jelly beans, and Twix. Another one of Nelson's passions was developing his own impressive dripped- out style. Nelson collected shoes, hats and hoodies. He always took pride in his appearance. He was known for his extensive shoe game, and recently started incorporating jewelry into the mix. Nelson was a friend to all. He was an amazing son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and team mate. He loved hanging out with family and friends, playing video games and listening to music. He also enjoyed attending school functions at his Green Bay Southwest High School. Nelson loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family, and bike riding with friends. Nelson played Lacrosse for many years. He was honored to play for his Oneida Community, and represent The Iroquois National Lacrosse Team. Nelson also enjoyed traveling. His last road trip to California was his most memorable. Nelson was adored by his family, and looked up to by his younger cousins. He was an amazing role model for his younger brother Waylon. Nelson had a remarkable faith and strength. He had a strong faith in God, his family, and himself. This unquestionable strength was witnessed greatly throughout his last year. He will forever be a HERO in our hearts. His inspiring spirit will remind us to "LIVE LIKE NELSON." Nelson was preceded in death by Great Grandparents; Nelson and Rebecca Ninham, Arthur and Frances VandeHei, Joseph and Adeline Pryes, Edward and Anna Kurowski and grandfather Robert Smith. Nelson was survived by parents; Jeremy and Dawn VandeHei; Brother; Waylon. Grandparents; Todd and Regina VandeHei, Theresa Smith, and Anthony Pryes. Aunties and Uncles include Brandon (Natalie) VandeHei, Vanessa (Chad) Miller, Robby (Cortney) Pryes, Annie (Luke) Ullmer and Laura Pryes and many cousins. Nelson's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to their community, family and friends; The Oneida Tribe, Lacrosse family, and Green Bay Southwest students and staff. The family would also like to thank St. Vincent Hospital Pediatric Oncology team, The Child Life staff, Children's Hospital of Milwaukee, Unity Hospice, and the First Responders team. Lastly, an extra hug to Zuzaw's Way and Discovery Health. Please remember Nelson through his love of music, his fun loving stories, and beautiful smile.
