Reunited with his wife of 60 years, Omer Francis Smet passed away early Monday morning, November 25, 2013. Omer was born on the family farm in Glenmore on March 11, 1922 to Frank and Annabelle (Bacon) Smet. Omer served in the U.S. Army during World War II under the 30th Division. He received his Honorable Discharge on January 20, 1946. On August 21, 1948 he married Lorraine Lukasik at St. Mary Church in Glenmore by Fr. Joseph Kools. Omer was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family. He retired from Nicolet Paper Company in 1987. Omer enjoyed his family and grandchildren and the activities in which they were involved. He also enjoyed the sport of harness racing. Omer is survived by his three children: daughter Mary (David) Sylvester; son James (friend Carol) Smet; and son Joseph (Lisa) Smet; five grandchildren: Maricica and Ellie Sylvester, and Matthew, Aaron, and Briana Smet; his siblings: Kathleen Vaessen, Alvin Smet, Joan Zuehls, and Jerry (Vera) Smet; sister-in-law Lucille Rosik; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Annabelle; wife Lorraine; brother Robert (Jane) Smet; sisters Viola (Terrence) Farrel and Sylvia (Bill) Robertson; brothers and sisters-in-law Leo Rosik, Merlin Zuehls, Richard Vaessen, Betty Smet, Tony (Delores) Lukasik, and Roman Lukasik. Friends and family may visit from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2013 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. to close the evening. Visitation will continue from 9:00 to 10:00a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Suburban Dr & Lourdes Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O.Praem officiating. Military Honors will be accorded to Omer after Mass. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
